Fluoride Treatments

What are Fluoride Treatments?

Fluoride is one of the most important things to use when it comes to the strength and health of your teeth. Fluoride helps to prevent tooth decay, which can result in the eventual need for fillings, root canals and extractions. To prevent these things from happening, fluoride treatments can be done as a way to further protect your teeth. The treatment is easy and simply involves brushing liquid fluoride onto the teeth and allowing it to soak into the tooth.

Why are Fluoride Treatments needed?

There are several reasons why you might need or want additional fluoride treatments. If you’re not using dental products that contain fluoride or if you’re prone to tooth decay, these treatments can be incredibly beneficial. We often recommend these treatments to children who don’t always have the best eating and brushing habits. If you don’t drink from a public water source containing fluoride, these treatments might be the best choice for you.

Who is a candidate for Fluoride Treatments?

Fluoride treatments are safe for patients of all ages. In fact, we do these treatments most on pediatric patients. However, they are still just as beneficial for adult teeth in keeping them strong and protected. We can perform an examination to determine if you would benefit from these additional fluoride treatments.

What happens during the Fluoride Treatment process?

The treatment process is easy and requires absolutely no anesthetic. In fact, fluoride treatments can be done in conjunction with other types of procedures you’re having done in the office. We first clean and dry the teeth before applying a liquid fluoride. You will not be able to eat or drink for about a half hour after the procedure as this gives the fluoride enough time to soak into the teeth. You can have these treatments done at any and all of your dental visits to further strengthen your teeth and fight against tooth decay.
